PROXIMITY SEARCHES
In a NORMAL SEARCH, if you enter two or more words on the
same line, they will be found any time they both occur
anywhere on the same screen. The NORMAL SEARCH mode is
automatically chosen. If you wish to switch back to it after
making another choice, press the <F6> key.
NOTE:
When conducting any of the following proximity searches, the
following rule applies: the more common the words in your
search, the longer the search may take.
To find an exact sentence or quotation (EXACT PHRASE
SEARCH), press the <F7> key after you have typed in the
phrase you wish to search for and <F5> to begin your search.
To find words close to each other (WORD PROXIMITY SEARCH),
press the <F8> key and type in within how many words apart
from each other the words must be in order to be found, press
<ENTER> and press the <F5> key to begin your search.
To find words farther apart (SCREEN PROXIMITY SEARCH),
press the <F9> key and type in within how many screens of
each other the words must be in order to be found, press
<ENTER> and press the <F5> key to begin your search.
Punctuation and upper/lower case are both ignored.
If at any time you are unsure about how to search for words,
choose WORDS from the Main Menu and then press the help
key <F1>. You will see the explanation of how to add and
subtract words or lines of words.
If you want to delete and re-type any line, press <F3>.
You may use the <ARROW KEYS> to move from line to line to
type in your request.
WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED typing the words(s), name(s),
phrase(s), etc., you wish to find and you wish to begin
your search, press <F5>. If you wish to make additional
selections before beginning your search such as author,
place of origin, time of publication, or category, press
<ESC> to return to the Main Menu. Begin your search by
pressing <F5>.
If you choose to begin your search now, you will see the
titles which contain the word or words you have selected.
You may select one or more of these listed titles from the
TITLES Screen section.
